Compassionate Care for Stillbirth and
Infant Loss
At Groves Family Funeral Directors, we are more than funeral directors; we are part of the community,
and we stand with you in your time of need.
The loss of a baby, whether through miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss, is a deeply devastating experience. It brings overwhelming grief, as the hopes and dreams for a future with your child are suddenly taken away. Stillbirth refers to the loss of a baby after 24 weeks of pregnancy, while infant loss typically refers to the death of a baby within the first year of life.
These heart-breaking events affect families emotionally, physically, and spiritually, leaving them in need of support and understanding. Each family's experience is unique, and their journey through grief is deeply personal, requiring compassion and care.
The loss of a baby before 24 weeks of pregnancy is often referred to as a Late Miscarriage, but it carries with it the same depth of grief and heartache. We understand that for many parents, this loss can be just as devastating, as they have already begun to bond with their baby and imagine a future together. The term 'miscarriage' does not diminish the significance of this loss or the emotional pain that accompanies it.
In this situation, we understand that many families face additional challenges in processing their grief, as the loss may occur before they’ve had the opportunity to share the pregnancy with others. We recognise that the emotional impact of a miscarriage before 24 weeks is deeply personal and real. Acknowledging this loss, offering support, and creating space for remembrance can be vital in helping families through such a difficult time.
At Groves Family Funeral Directors, we understand the profound heartache that comes with the loss of a baby. Whether through miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss, the grief is immense, and we are here to offer sensitive and compassionate support every step of the way.

Funeral Options for Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Loss
We provide a range of funeral options to suit your family's wishes, whether you prefer a small, private service or a more traditional ceremony. Our services include:
· Personalised Options
Whether you prefer a quiet, intimate service or a more traditional ceremony, we will tailor the arrangements to suit your family’s wishes and beliefs, ensuring your child’s memory is honoured in a way that feels right to you.
· Burial and Cremation
We offer both burial and cremation options, with the choice of a dedicated resting place where you can visit and remember your child. In some circumstances, it is possible for the family to have a private burial in their own space or garden.
We can help you find the right location that feels most fitting for your family.
· Keepsake Memorials
We can assist in creating personalised keepsakes, such as engraved plaques, memorial jewellery, or bespoke urns, allowing you to hold a physical reminder of your child's memory close to you.
· Religious or Non-Religious Services
We support both religious and non-religious services, ensuring that your family's beliefs and values are respected and incorporated into the ceremony.
It may not be appropriate for the family to hold a funeral service. We are still able to offer guidance and assistance in helping you through the difficult decisions, offering as much or as little support as you need. Every family's journey is unique, and we are committed to helping you honour your baby's life with the dignity and care they deserve.

Important Information: Understanding Third-Party Costs
At Groves Funeral Directors, we are committed to offering our funeral services for miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss at no charge.
However, while we cover all our Funeral Directors Services, there may still be third-party costs that we are unable to control. These can include:
· Cemetery or Crematorium Fees
Typically, Cemeteries and Crematoria do not make a charge for the burial plot or cremation of a still born child or infant. However, some burial grounds or crematoriums may charge for the use of their facilities, particularly for the services of a Miscarried Baby. We will work with you to find an option that suits your family’s needs and budget, but it’s important to be aware that these fees may vary depending on the location or type of service.
· Death Certificates
In certain cases, there may be fees associated with obtaining legal documents, such as death certificates, which are sometimes required for burial or cremation. We can help guide you through this process.
· Special Memorial Products
While we offer a range of personalised services, some families may choose additional memorial products, such as a specialised coffin, floral tributes, custom memorial jewellery, or bespoke headstones, which may involve third-party costs.
We will always be upfront and transparent about any potential third-party fees and will work closely with you to minimise costs wherever possible. At Groves, our priority is to provide compassionate support and care during this difficult time, helping you to honour your child’s memory in a way that feels meaningful to you.
